Microsoft Excel 97 Viewer

Microsoft Excel Viewer is built to automatically configure itself as a Helper Application for Netscape and Microsoft Internet Explorer (it can also be manually configured as a Helper Application for other browsing tools). This allows users to automatically view Microsoft Excel spreadsheets (.xls) that are linked to Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) pages on a local area network (LAN) or the World Wide Web.

Users should copy and distribute Microsoft Excel Viewer to friends and coworkers, or post it onto public electronic bulletin boards, LANs, and Internet sites. This way individuals without Microsoft Excel will have a utility that allows them to view Excel spreadsheets.

System Requirements

• A personal computer with a 486 or higher processor
• Microsoft Windows 95 operating system or Microsoft Windows NT® Workstation operating system, version 3.51 or later
• 8 MB of memory for Windows 95 and 16 MB of memory for Windows NT Workstation
• 7 MB of hard disk space (9 MB free for installation only)
• VGA or higher-resolution video adapter
• Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device

To install this download:

1. You may want to print this page to use as a reference when you are offline.
2. Download the file from Office Update by clicking Download Now! at the top left of this page and following the instructions in the dialog boxes.
3. Double-click the Xlviewer.exe program file on your hard disk to start the setup program. If you received Microsoft Excel Viewer on floppy disks, run the setup.exe program on Disk 1.
4. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

   Note If you already have a full version of Microsoft Excel installed on your computer, DO NOT install Microsoft Excel Viewer in the same directory. Doing so will cause file conflicts. The default folder location in the installer is c:\Program Files\Xlview.

Instructions for use:

• On the Start menu, point to Programs and then click Microsoft Excel 97 Viewer.
• From the desktop, locate and double-click the Xlview.exe program file. By default this file is located in the c:\Program Files\Xlview folder.

For more information on using Microsoft Excel Viewer, click Contents on the Help menu in Microsoft Excel Viewer.

To remove this download:

1. On the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
3. In the Install/Uninstall list, select Microsoft Excel Viewer 97, and then click Add/Remove.
4. Click Remove All.
5. Click Next.
6. Click Finish to complete and exit the installer.
